Since its launch in July 2008, the Pickens Plan has recruited 1.5 million online supporters, built a 200,000 person strong social network (push.pickensplan.com) and produced over 1.1 million emails to Congress and the administration. Todd Zeigler and Heather Lauer, the team behind the Pickens Plan online program will provide a detailed overview of how they did it.
Todd Zeigler is Senior Vice President at DC-based internet consulting firm The Bivings Group, where he has managed online public relations and marketing campaigns for clients including the Pickens Plan, Friends of Fred Thompson, Edison Electric Institute, the International Center for Journalists, and the American Petroleum Institute. He also heads The Bivings Group’s internal product development efforts, managing the ongoing development of ImpactWatch, a revolutionary media-monitoring product that provides organizations with real-time intelligence that helps them shape their communications strategy.
Heather Lauer is co-founder of Tribe Effect LLC, an Internet strategy consulting firm focused on using online social networks to build advocacy and cultural movements. Previously, Heather was a Partner at DC-based DCI Group LLC, a strategic public affairs and global issues management firm where she worked on domestic and international issue campaigns for trade associations and Fortune 50 companies in the areas of telecommunications, energy, technology, health care, and homeland security. Heather also directed the political floor operation at the 2004 Republican National Convention.
