Web Developer

Free Press is a national, nonpartisan organization working to reform the media. Free Press was founded in 2003 and has staff working from offices in Florence, Mass., and Washington, D.C.

We are now hiring a Web Developer to work with our Communications Team to build and maintain our award-winning Web sites (including freepress.net; savetheinternet.com and stopbigmedia.com). We’re looking for a motivated, well-organized, level-headed person with substantial Web development experience. This job requires strong management, communication and technical skills. If you don’t have Drupal and the other geek stuff described below, we’ll say thanks, but no thanks. If you do have what we’re looking for, this is a great opportunity to use your technical skills to make a difference in the world.

The Web Developer will work with key staff to plan and implement new features, functions and applications on our Web sites and to build new sites. Working in a fast-paced environment, the Web Developer will configure sites built with the Drupal CMS; program modules and implement other customizations for Drupal; and develop and troubleshoot other PHP/MySQL-based applications that might involve interacting with third-party APIs and utilize “Web 2.0” principles. The Web Developer will also work closely with outside vendor(s) to assure the technological infrastructure behind our Web presence is stable, secure, performing well and up-to-date. S/he will work in a team approach to ensure Free Press meets its goals and objectives to increase public participation in media policy and media reform. This position is based in our Florence, Mass. office.
