This January 23rd is Canadas federal election day and as if the media is not fast enough with this sort of thing, mobile-savy Canadians will be able to get up-to-the-minute local real time results via sms/text messaging. The service is provided by CTV.ca and Globeand mail.com.

The innovative joint initiative between CTV and The Globe and Mail will be available, at no additional cost, to any Canadian mobile phone subscriber.

Users simply text their postal code to the Short Code "Elect" (35328) to receive real time voting results after the polls close from CTV.ca. CTV will also offer mobile users the ability to sign up for election trivial and question of the day polls.

If your looking for more national updates from the Globe and Mail then simply send the word "Globe" to the same "Elect" (35328) Smart Code. Globeandmail.com's Decision 2006 election feature also includes analysis and resources for Canadians including riding profiles and candidate searches by going to www.globeandmail.com/decision2006.

Both CTV.ca and globeandmail.com will send updated polling information, national and provincial standings as well as other information exclusive to their own newsrooms.
