An Xiao Mina
Creative Technologist and Writer
An “An Xiao” Mina is an artist, writer, and technologist based in California. She works at the SF-based Meedan, where they are building a platform for social translation of social media. Their first project aims to translate geolocated tweets for Out of Eden Walk, a global journey tracing the historic path of human migration led by Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Paul Salopek. She is also co-founder of The Civic Beat, an online magazine and writer's collective focused on issues of global justice, creativity, and technology.
Mina has spoken at venues like RightsCon, Creative Mornings, and Aspen Film, and she has contributed writing to publications like the Los Angeles Review of Books, the Atlantic, and the New Inquiry. She serves as a contributing editor to Civicist and Hyperallergic. A section editor for Ai Weiwei: Spatial Matters (published by MIT Press and Tate Publishing), she is currently working on a book about internet memes and global social movements.
